Avelo Airlines has reached a major milestone, flying its 10 millionth customer just five years after launching and reshaping the US low-cost market with what it calls America’s most convenient airline. Since taking flight on April 28, 2021 as the first new US carrier in nearly 15 years, Avelo has “ushered in a new era of affordable, reliable and easy travel” for millions across the country, operating almost 80,000 flights and serving 37 destinations across 15 states and two Puerto Rican cities – Aguadilla and San Juan.
Founder and CEO Andrew Levy described the achievement as a defining moment for the airline. “Flying our 10 millionth Customer is an extraordinary milestone and a proud moment for everyone at Avelo,” he said, noting that the milestone reflects the growing appeal of the airline’s low fares, non-stop routes and focus on simplicity. Levy added that Avelo remains committed to expanding access to air travel while delivering the “reliable, convenient and welcoming experience our Customers have come to expect”.
Avelo’s strategy has centred on using smaller, less crowded airports in major metro areas, giving travellers easier access, shorter queues and savings on parking and airport related costs – all paired with the airline’s everyday low fares. Customers can tailor their travel by paying only for what they value, including seating upgrades such as Stretch+, which offers 34 inches of legroom and a blocked middle seat. Families also benefit from Avelo’s policy of automatically seating children aged 14 and under with an accompanying adult at no extra charge.
The airline continues to build out its customer experience ecosystem. Its Avelo PLUS membership programme has become a popular option for travellers seeking additional value, offering discounted fares, free priority boarding and access to private fare sales. These benefits extend to up to nine people on the same itinerary, making it particularly attractive for families and groups.
Avelo has also introduced the Avelo Airlines World Elite Mastercard, which provides Avelo Cash back on purchases and unlocks instant travel perks when used to book Avelo flights – including a free carry on bag, priority boarding and complimentary standard seat selection. As with Avelo PLUS, these perks apply to everyone on the cardholder’s reservation.
