Travel service operator Alhind Group has received approval from India’s Civil Aviation Ministry to start an airline. Alhind Air aims to launch operations by the end of the year, pending approval from the DGCA.

The company plans to commence operations with three ATR-72 turboprop planes and focus on regional routes in South India – connecting Kochi with Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Chennai. Once established, it will then operate on the Kerala-West Asia route circuit.

According to reports from CNBC-TV18, the airline plans to increase to 20 planes within two years of starting operations. It has already made an initial investment of 200 to 500 crore (£18-45 million) to add more planes to its fleet and secured support from Cochin International Airport in Kochi to begin operations.

Alhind Air will join the recent influx of regional carriers in India, following FLY91, another ATR operator that started operations in March 2024.
