Alaska Airlines has introduced a new livery for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, marking the first phase of an updated “global experience” as the airline expands into new international markets in Asia and Europe.
The airline says the new livery, which will debut in January, is an evolution of the airline’s brand and reflects its commitment to connecting the Pacific Northwest to destinations worldwide.
The new exterior design, which will be featured on all of Alaska’s 787-9s by spring, is inspired by the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights.
Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, says the new livery “embodies Alaska’s transition to a global airline with beauty, grace and a nod to our heritage.”
He added that as the airline expands to new destinations, it is “eager for more and more travelers to recognize our new livery as being Alaska Airlines and appreciate the outstanding service we’ve long been known for.”
The design incorporates “aura lines” that are also present in the airline’s current livery and premium cabin interiors. A horizontal stripe along the fuselage is described as a contemporary reference to the airline’s classic liveries from the 1970s and 1980s. The Alaska Airlines name remains on the aircraft, but with a new look and feel.
