Air Europa, a Spanish full-service carrier, has partnered with Worldwide by easyJet, in a deal which will add 25 new destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, and Central and South America to the low-fare airline’s alternative interline platform.
While Air Europa has existing traditional interline agreements, this is its first entry into the alternative interline model. It gains access to easyJet’s extensive short-haul network across key European hubs, including London Gatwick, Milan Malpensa, Madrid, and Palma de Mallorca.
Worldwide by easyJet, launched in 2017, is operated by the Icelandic technology provider Dohop on a “Minimum Connection Time” basis. Dohop’s core technology is “virtual interlining” that allows airlines to sell connecting flights without needing traditional complex interline agreements. Instead of airlines directly agreeing to handle each other’s passengers, Dohop’s platform steps in to manage the connection.
If a flight is delayed and a passenger misses their connection, Dohop’s team assists in finding alternative flights.
Sarah Hanan, CCO of Dohop said the new partnership “is a prime example of how alternative interlining can unlock new possibilities for airlines and travellers alike.”
